Closest I can find is a burial on FindMyPast of a Jane HAWKINGS in East Stonehouse 1888, aged 33 bn c1855

claire

This burial is looking promising. Perhaps she was living her mother while William was at sea and therefore buried in her hometown.

It would be advisable to purchase the death cert for Jane Hawkings in the hope it is William's first wife.

All I can say is Wow!! :o so much interest and information from everyone, so thank you very much.

Claire: Much off the information you have given; reinforces what I already have, however the Burial you found looks promising and worthy of further research.

William had a long career in the Royal Navy and served all over the globe and was indeed a ships Carpenter (or Chippy!)  here's a picture of him. Sadly I don't have an image of suitable quality of Jane to post here.

Once again thank you all

Regards
