Glasgow Pub demolished '60s 59 George St/Shuttle St
« on: Sunday 10 January 16 19:33 GMT (UK) »
As listed in Old Glasgow Pubs in 1899 > 59 George Street corner of Shuttle Street- John Peters

Once known as The Cabmans Rest, can anyone remember what it was called in the '60s?

Asking for a twitter friend

Many thanks

just got this reply"

Hi David, I've checked my 1948 Kelly's Directory for 59 George Street and the pub is owned by Hugh R Corson, and he appears to still be landlord according to the 1960 GPO Directory. The pub appears on the 1950 Ordnance Survey Map (5965SE) and it is only shown as 'PH' indicating a public house. In some instances where a pub is known by a specific name e.g.The Red Lion it may appear on the map as this, but any pubs known by the owner's name are merely recorded as 'PH'. Hope this helps.

Fifer,   I used to drink in the Marland Bar, a folkies pub in George Street, where singing was compulsory!  ;D

There were six pubs in Shuttle Street at one time, is it the Mackenzie Vaults?
