Have had a look at the Brirhdir Cenotaph online and this is what is shown for W Butler:

Butler, W

First World War (1914-1918)

Army (British)

Sergeant

Is this incorrect?

Hi Ray
The link for IWM failed but the details are not for the Brithdir (New Tredegar) Memorial.  There are several places named Brithdir, so it depends which one the IWM have details of.  The details on our Brithdir is exactly as posted W Butler AB.

I've researched numerous Butlers who served in the navy and lost their lives but unfortunately none had any additional information to link them to Brithdir.  This is the reason I thought of trying to find a connection via the censuses.  Today, I looked through the school log books and found a teacher E.M. Butler at the Brithdir School in 1911 and again she may not be related but as I have said I'm clutching at straws.

anything and everything to do with the village of Brithdir, near New Tredegar in Gwent.
