I haven't come across this particular W*d*l* family before, but being interested in all W*d*l*s I did a bit of digging.

1851 census lists John Sr, Janet, John Jr, 18; Alexander, 12; Thomas, 10; George, 9: James, 5; and Robert, 3 at Balleny, Currie.
1881 Census lists Mary Jr, Isabella and Elizabeth at 65 Houston Street, Govan, with a cousin, Thomas Thompson, 15, born Linlithgow
1881 census lists Alexander Nisbet, Mary Sr and James next door at 67 Houston Street, Govan. Alexander was a coachman.
In 1841 John Sr was a tollkeeper. In 1851 he was a farmer of 357 acres.
So, John made a biggish step up from being a tollkeeper to a substantial farmer. Janet must have died betwen 1851 and 1854, when John re-married. They moved (why?) to Glasgow between 1861 and 1863. John died between 1865 and 1873, and Mary re-married, stepping down in the world from being the wife of a substantial farmer to the wife of a coachman. The girls set up as dressmakers, and the boys all dispersed.
Is 1866 the year of John's death?
Lots of food for thought there.
