1841 What kind of instiutition this is?
« on: Saturday 16 January 16 09:09 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I'm wondering if anyone can help.  I have the following citation from 1841, Newton Street and the record states 'institution' and wondering what kind of instiutition this is?

Registration District St Giles & St George
Book Number 4
Parish St Giles In The Fields
County Middlesex
Page Number 36
Registration Number HO107
Piece/Folio 673/22

Is it possible to check from that?

Thanks

Whereabouts on that page does it say institution, please?   I can't see it.

Hello Lily M thanks for your reply.

Sorry missed off the last line of the citation which says:

Affiliate record type: institution.

I am looking at a transcribed citation, so cannot see the page itself.

Would it help if a name or two of people on the page is given?

Samuel Webb aged 40
Sarah his wife 30?
Sarah daughter 10
Emma daughter aged 3?  Birthplace Middlesex

Thanks

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

I can't see any mention of an 'institution' on the original page. All that is given is their address, which is Newton Street  :-\

Census reference is HO 107 / 673 / 4 / 22 / 36

Affiliate record type: institution.

From where did you get this information?

Thanks JenB.  I'm just getting used to things.  I found that record on familysearch.  The way it is set out it appears that that family are in an instiutition with lots of other people on the same record, that was how I read it or am I confused and it shows everyone on the same page regardless of relationship to each other?  I know 1841 is a lot more sparce of info than later years.

Would it be possible to have the information that is actually on the page for that family so I have an accurate account?

Thanks

Maybe the transcription form you have automatically gives a 'type of institution' option.  Which, in your case, doesn't need to be filled in.

In case it's of any help to you - Emma has W as a middle initial.

HO 107 / 673 / 4 / 22 / 36
Newton Street, Finsbury

Samuel Webb, 40, Smith, N
Sarah, 30, N
Sarah, 10, Y
Emma w. 3, Y

There are several other households within the same property, this is why a long list of names appears on Family Search.

Thanks to you both.  It puts a whole new complexion on things knowing the proper information - I shall take the familysearch stuff with a pinch of salt in future.   It is good to know about the W for Emma, also the trade for Samuel which I'm assuming is blacksmith?

Thanks
