Could this be the Tuite family in 1852? Ellens birth year matches up pretty well.

Ellen was born in New York (as per 1900 census) and her father is recorded as Philip on her marriage record therefore I think this is a better match -

Mystery solved.
Eventually I find where Mary came from and confirmed is was a Tuite. You didn't come across a marriage cert for her by any chance? She married a Thomas.
I have all their children, etc. Just the marriage cert is missing.

Hi,

Unfortunately I have been unable to find a marriage for a Thomas J Dunn/
Mary Tuite. Their eldest son (as per census) appears to be Charles J Dunn born Jul 1877 (is that correct?), if so you need to find a marriage before or around c.1877.

It may be advisable to post another question on this board asking for a look up for a marriage of Thomas and Mary as someone may have access to marriage records in the US other than the ones I have access to.
