Which School near Whitevale St. ??
« on: Tuesday 19 January 16 22:57 GMT (UK) »
Hi Folks,

I moved to Glasgow from Aberdeen in or about 1961/62. Initially I stayed in Annbank Street and can recall I went to a school near Whitevale St. ?? Cannot recall the name of the school. After a period of time I moved to Acorn street and seem to recall moving school but cannot recall that either. Any help greatly appreciated, also hoping to find school pictures more especially of my two brothers who stayed in Glasgow and have both now passed away.

Thanks,
Unknownmale.

You could try having a rake around through the 'Virtual Mitchell' photos to see if there's anything you recognise.

The nearest school to Annbank Street was Thomson Street School, midway between Annbank Street and Whitevale Street on the corner of Thomson Street and Reidvale Street.  It's the school Lulu attended.
Smellie from Gartshore to New Monkland;  Sneddon from Polmont to New Monkland;  Lumsden, Bo'ness to Lanarkshire;  Black, McCallum, Wotherspoon at New Monkland;  Fyfe at  Cambuslang;  Currie, Hamilton on Arran; Gilchrist, Brown, Campbell on Islay

Might help (we are in Scotland  ::)) to indicate whether school would be RC or Protestant. Sort of divides the choices then at this time mostly...

Friends Reunited have a school section with photos, if you get closer to finding what you need. You can register for free, think you just need to subscribe to communicate with people? They also have photos from schools.

Thanks to all for their answers, sorry for late acknowledgement. I was a bit reluctant to mention the religious thing it would have been protestant. I know about Friend R. I see it is closing down. I seem to recall there were two schools in the area I mention.
It`s a dreadful thing old age canna remember anything. Mind yu I could not recall when I was younger.

Will try a scroll through Friend R.

Regards,

Unknownmale.

The Thomson Street Public School building is still there but now apartments. If you look at it on GoogleMap street view you will recognise if it is the school you went to

This post is a natural hand made product. The slight variations in spelling and grammar enhance its individual character and beauty and in no way are to be considered flaws. Unfortunately my preferred method of writing (Parker Quink on Basildon Bond) cannot be used.

Try this site:

I found a class photo  with my dad in it. It must have been taken between 1928 and 1930  !!
