1889 colony kansas

I am doing my family tree and I have discovered that 4 sons of the same family died in 1889 between one in feb age 14 yrs two in oct aged 20 and 24 yrs and one in nov aged 22 yrs. was there some outbreak of a illness in this year. they lived in  colony Anderson Kansas.  thank you.
