Lawless of Tramore/Portlaw
« on: Wednesday 20 January 16 21:08 GMT (UK) »
Looking for marriage of Thomas Lawless to Bridget Quinlan. Thomas died in Portlaw 1864, aged 61. Bridget died in Portlaw, 1870, aged 60.

However, only known child of this couple is Thomas Lawless, who (according to the Death Index) was 43 in 1906 when he died in Tramore.
Can anybody help?

Have you found Thomas, the son in the 1901 Census (death ages are very unreliable)
There is this man but he is down as 50

He doesn't appear to be in 1911 but than neither is his wife

I see an Alice Lawless died 1911 Reg district Waterford and her age is 46, same as the 1901 Census, if the couple above are correct something funny going on with the ages.

That is my Lawless family. You are right. It would seem there is something funny going on with the ages.

Both seem to be ten years too old in the 1901 census. Thomas died in 1906 and Alice, as you say, died in 1911. Respective ages, 43 and 46. They married in 1879, which would make Thomas just 16 and Alice only 14. That is if the ages at death are to be believed.
If they were older it would make the advanced ages of Thomas' parents, Thomas and Bridget, more realistic.

Thanks for your quick reply. I appreciate it.

Yes, Sinann. He married Alice Hutchinson in 1879, in Tramore.
The marriage entry gave his parents as Thomas Lawless (deceased) and Bridget Quinlan. The towns of Kilmeaden and Tramore are noted on the marriage entry, but not sure for which person.

If they are the Thomas and Bridget Lawless who died in Portlaw, then they were knocking on in years when the son Thomas was born, assuming that the younger Thomas was born around 1863. Even ten years earlier would make his parents near their fifties.

Had a look in Ballybricken, Waterford which is the parish Kilmeaden is in, but no sign of a baptism for Thomas from 1849 to 1861, the site is gone slow for some reason now so I have to leave it for the moment
I did see a Hutchinson family there but no Alice yet.

Usually a couple marries in the brides parish but not always.

Hi Marriage in Tramore 5th July 1879, of Thomas Lawless, son of Thomas lawless & Bridget Quinlan, address Kilmeaden, to Alice Hutchinson, daughter of James Hutchinson & Bridget Butler, of Tramore. Kilmeaden would be part of Ballybricken, and also Ballyduff & Portlaw hope this may help. Jim

It does help Jim, but I still can't find them.
Bridget may be from another parish.
