Isaac Kempton Death, Ely: Anyone care to have a go?
« on: Thursday 21 January 16 15:29 GMT (UK) »
Ok, so there are quite a few Isaac Kempton's in Ely in the 18th and 19th centuries and I have traced all of them apart from the death of one. This Isaac Kempton was born in 1788 and married Sarah Knowles in 1809 and they had 5 children between 1809 (a son Isaac of course) and 1822 (that's the latest I've found). However, what I cannot find is when this 1788 Isaac died. He must have died sometime between 1822 and 1837 as he does not appear in the Civil Registration records or in the 1841 census but can I find him? Well, no I can't. Anyone with a fresh pair of eyes fancy having a look?

What about his wife? Have you found a burial record for her? Or is she in the 1841 census?

She appears in the 1841 and 1851 census working as a widowed house servant in an outlying farm in Ely

The Cambs burial index at https://www.cfhs.org.uk/searchsd.cfm doesn't have an Isaac Kempton that matches your criteria, so presumably he was buried elsewhere

Is it possible he was tried for a crime and transported? It wouldn't be the first time that I've seen the wife described as a widow.

Almost certainly not. His name certainly has not come up in any transportation searches I have performed.

Don't know if this is any help, but in the England Pollbooks & Directories 1830 - 1837, there is an Isaac Kempton listed.

For 1832 - St. Mary, Ely - Aldeane 1, Townley 1, Yorke 0 and Childers 1

No idea what the Aldeane etc means, just copied what was there.

Or does the above relate to Isaac senior?
