Hi,

Is this the family in the 1851 Census living in Unstone - Samuel gives birth year as 1810?

GILL
Samuel Gill   41 born 1810  Unstone
Mary Gill           44  "      1807  Ecclesfield Yorkshire
Mary Gill           14   "     1837  Unstone
Edward Gill   11   "     1840  Unstone

If this is your family Mary born Ecclesfield is still living in Unstone in 1871 with a daughter Jane aged 15 and Grand Daughter Ellen Charlesworth aged 11.

1881 Census still in Unstone.

Yes that's them.Oh and I've just realized I knew mary didn't die in 52,why didn't I update. Very annoying, she was at the inquest and funeral for her son Edward in 1882. Going over to my tree to sort it out and will give myself a smack.

I just checked my tree and I see what I did when I put the post on. The Mary gill who died in 1852 was Samuel gill's mum. His wife Mary gill nee trueman died in 1885.

Hi,

To answer your original question, a Samuel Gill born 1810 was buried Dronfield Parish Church
on the 4th December 1859 aged 49. Residence Unstone.

You can see the image of this register on www.familysearch.org.
You will need to sign in and then follow instructions.  It is FREE.

Buried on the same day is a George Charlesworth aged 1 residence Unstone, was this another
grandchild?

I have been unable to find a Civil Registration for Samuel Gill December Q 1859 Derbyshire.  But think
that the one you have for 1860 is for a Samuel Gill buried North Wingfield 10th July 1860 aged
26.  Both North Wingfield & Unstone are covered by Chesterfield Civil Registration District.

Ah brilliant that must be him a daughter married a charlesworth, the 1810 I'm not sure on. His age seems to vary, I think it was about 1808. I get so muddled with the Samuel gills, there are so many of them, very popular name in Derbyshire. Thanks so much spendlove.

Hi,

Taking ages from Census, I think the Samuel born and living in Unstone is quite consistant:-

1841 Census only, Adult ages rounded down by up to 4 years.
Samuel states aged 30  (june 1841) so his actual age was 30-34

1851 Census (March 1851) he gives his age as 41

So born abt 1809/1810.

There is a bpt 10th November 1809 Dronfield  Samuel Gill   Father Edward Gill. Residence Unstone.

This register for this bpt can be viewed on www.familysearch.com.
