Can you give us a few clues , please ?
Where is it ? If it's the entrance to a house/garden/public building/institute that might give an idea of a family or institution represented by the "arms" / emblem.
Can you suggest an approximate date for the gateway ? I suspect the lettering is Gothic Revival style but it might be older (Elizabethan ?).
There are some other devices on the shield : something to the left of the letter, possibly a rose, or a portcullis on a roundel; and under the base of the "letter" something that looks like a knot with a sort of horizontal figure-of-eight with tassels underneath. Any chance of a better picture or a verbal description ?
