1629 Latin marriage licence
« on: Sunday 24 January 16 08:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I’d be grateful with some help here with the Latin please.
I can see it’s between Henricus Hurst and Katherina Hyde, and can spot “Pointon” (now Poynton, in Cheshire)
Anything else of interest?

Many thanks

I can't make out all of it, but I'm pretty sure it's "Katherina Hyde al[ia]s Ward sp[inste]r".

The alias might mean she was illegitimate (but her father was known), or that her father died and she was sometimes known by her stepfather's name. And sometimes whole families were known by alternative names (eg "Smith als Jones") for several generations, but the reason may be lost in the mists of time.

I agree with Arthur.

Letters of dispensation were issued to Master Normansell or the curate of Pointon, clergymen, to solemnize the marriage between Henry Hurst and Katherine Hyde otherwise Ward, spinster, banns having been omitted, security given etc., Master Normansell was bound.
