Callow family
« on: Sunday 24 January 16 15:14 GMT (UK) »
During my search for my great grandfather (Nimshi Callow) I have been in touch with the Somerset & Dorset F.H.S. who, sadly, could no help me but did come up with the name of F.C.Callow on the 1914-1918 war memorial at Midsomer Norton.  Even though this one is not connected to my family as far as I know that is,  is there anyone who may know more about this soldier please?  Many thanks again

Hi again he looks to have served in also the Bucks Battalion. Oxford & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry and the South Lancashire Regiment on one it states "Found accidently drowned by an Italian soldier Marcello at Thiene 27th October 1918" there is a lot more on this drowning, above is a shortened version!
His address on one record was 13, Steam Mills, Midsomer Norton

Hi again, if this is your Nimshi in 1891, he looks to have possibly remarried from the 1881 Nimshi :-

Nimshi Callow 39 b Butleigh
Mary Jane 30 b Corsley, Wilts
Mable G 7 b Corsley
Herbert V ( Herbert Stephen Callow) 1 b Corsley
Residing at Bath Road, Radstock, Clutton
Census ref RG12/1928/56/58

In 1901 the same family is headed by a Frederick aged 49 Radstock RG13/2332/175/37, and on the last census is a Fred Callow aged 60 in Midsomer Norton

Hi again, so I see you have had other threads in May/December 2015 re Nimshi/Frederick Callow, did you purchase that death certificate in 1923?
Or the remarriage to Mary Jane Watts in September qtr 1889 Warminster 5a 262, other than that, what else have you been looking for?

PS what happened to Mable Gertrude Watts b c 1884 Corsley daughter of Mary Jane prior marriage from 1891?

Hi Wendy

I just had a quick look at the new page for free reg & found the below mentioned
Nemshi s/o Seth/Elizabeth Callow (lab) of Butleigh Bp 11 MAY 1846
Nemshi s/o    "        "            "  (shoemaker) of "   Bp  6  OCT 1850

I hope this is of some help
All the very best

Phil
Weston-Super-Mare

ps it looks like the first Nimshi passed away & the parents named their next son the same to perpetuate the name - I wonder where it originates, it could have been one of Nimshi's grandfathers names but Im only guessing
Worcestershire - Heeks, Maiden, Pinchin, Hartland, Tredwell, Holliday, Morton, Collins, Aldington, Saunders
Oxfordshire - Gomm, Hamblet, Austin, Winter,
Herefordshire - Lowe
Radnor - Lowe, Powell
Gloucestershire - Holliday, Pinchin

Frank Charles Callow was my grandfather. He died just before the end of WW1 in Italy found drowned by an Italian soldier.
We visited his grave a couple of years ago in the cemetary at Monteccio, north of Verona.
You have said there was a lot more to this drowning and I would be interested to know more details please.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat, the Service record/s I located for Frank Charles Callow if I recall was from FindMyPast , their are also his effects that were claimed by his Widow Edith M on Ancestry.
