stockton-on-tees burial - help please
« on: Monday 25 January 16 17:23 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have just found a newspaper article about one of my relatives in Yorkshire who was attending a family funeral in Stockton on Tees on July 8th 1927, when her husband died back home in Yorkshire.  I am of course, now curious as to who might have been buried in Stockton on that day.  (possible surnames could be Hoyle, Law, Adkins, Bedford)  Can anyone help please?

Thanks very much,
jsm

Checking FreeBMD, the only likely candidates are:

George Bedford, age 67, in Sedgefield Registration District
Gladys Bedford, age 36, in Sunderland RD
George Hoyle, age 51, in Stockton RD
Benjamin Law, 81, Durham RD
Elizabeth Law, 65, Darlington RD
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Thank you so much both of you.  (i was rather hoping for George Hoyle as I'd found him on the freebmd site - but obviously not, he's buried far too late!)  The Laws and Bedfords were a bit of a long shot.  Doesn't seem like any of them either.

So - who could have been buried on or shortly after the 8th July???  Do you have access to burial records?

Thanks again,

Do you have access to burial records?

I just searched the surnames you gave on Stockton Roots.
However, I don't think they yet have full coverage of all burial records  :-\

Have you approached it in a different way - eg have you traced all her siblings and found out when they and their spouses died?
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

There is a Probate entry for a Charles Adkins that died 8th July 1927 - but that was in Yorkshire

Also for an Emma LAw died that day, but that was also in Yorkshire

What was the name of your relative as there may be a report in a local newspaper which would help.

Stockton Registration District also covered parishes in North Riding of Yorkshire?

Also, a burial needn't take place where the person actually died.
And a Death Registration has to take place in the Registration District where the death occurs.
