It's too early for you, but I'll mention it just in case there is a link. A Charlotte Mackrell was confirmed at St Mary's, Enfield in Clayton le Moors, Lancs in 1825, cb

Ive had a look through New Zealand records and there are next to no people with that surname. Theres a few under Mackrell but no Charlottes in the b,d or m

I tried Mackrell, Mackerell, Mackerel

QLD BDM - no
VIC BDM - no
NSW - one Robert Mackerell, a few Mackrells but none of the names Im looking at
SA - one Ellen Mackerell death, husband of John. A John Mackrell died in the same year 1878. Theres a few Mackrells in the births and marriages and deaths.
WA - next to no records for those names.
McGaveston - Dublin-Ireland, France, New Zealand
White - Shalden, Alton, Chawton-Hampshire
O'Donnell - New Zealand, Co Down-Northern Ireland, USA
Franklin/Fraenkel - New Zealand, Prussia
Day - Echuca, Tongala, London, Fairford-Gloucestershire

Charlotte would have been without an income with at least 3 children. Unless she was helped by her family she would have had to remarry and I cant find a record of her remarrying.

It would be interesting but not unheard of for a single woman with young children to emigrate.

Today I went back through rhe PRONi BDM indexes for marriages and deaths.

I searched for Mackrell, Mackerel, Mackerell, Mackral, Mackrel, Mackarel, Mackarell, Mackerl and McKerell

A Charlotte Mackrell died 1 June 1921 aged 48 but this is the only one that I could find. The birth date is completely wrong so not even  few years out.

I found a James Mackarel marrying on 11 May 1869 to someone named Brown and another James to a woman named Neilson. Another James died in 1870 in addition to the one who died in 1869 in Magherafelt so it was a popular name for the district.

James Mackerell deaths

1841-1869
1847-1870
1871-1871
1798-1871

Wonder if she could have gone to Scotland?

here were probably more than 3 children since marriage was 1858 and civil registration started 1864 but it's possible that some, or all, died young.

I wonder why a woman with 3 young kids would want to move away from family - assuming that's the death of the right James in 1869.

I've tried USA and Scotland records via Family Search but no luck.

Its a shame the baptismal records were destroyed in 1922. So much family history lost.

At this point we don't know if any of the children were with Charlotte but if she had a chance to go somewhere where she could support the family then she would probably have considered moving away. Will keep looking...

Finding Charlotte is like finding what happened to her mother. I thought it would be easy but alas they just seem to vanish.
