Attached is a clipping of a birth record and I am unable to decipher the child's name with 100% confidence.

Perhaps William???

It looks like 'W' (something) 'm' so William seems logical. 

Are there any similar entries on that or other pages. If the name is William, which is quite common, you would expect to see others in the same register.....

I would say Wm for William but a bit lax not to write it out in full on such a document.

It's actually written as W^m y^e son of ... so it's definitely William.

(Wm is a frequently found abbreviation in early registers.)
