Sometimes here we have come across children whose parents were of mixed faith having their children baptised within days of each other in both churches.
Catholic priests did'nt like a long gap between birth and baptism so they may deliberately have given a later date of birth to keep him happy.
Re William jnr being C O E he would have had the choice as an adult to follow what religion he preferred.
I dont think between the births and baptism's shown that there is any doubt as to them being the right children of the right parents.

Thank you. Makes sense now. Does someone think that he was using the 14th Hussars just an address. As i said his extract on his service record from his birth certificate says Private 6th Dragoons. Is there a way of finding out if he had his regiment on Richard and Mary's birth certificate? You've all been stars, can't say thank you enough for the information

The only way to find out fathers occupation on birth certificates is to purchase research copies of same.

Make sure you use the government site [at Roscommon]
http://www.gov.ie/services/buy-a-birth-certificate/
I have always downloaded & printed the application form [as dathai says, make sure you get a €4 research copy] then sent ADDED - post it off with credit card details.

Werburgh St,Dublin 2
https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/GRO_Research.aspx
I am sure they will take your request by post
send them the following details
William                                                                  Registration Districts
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FY1K-7QQ  Naas for Kildare
Richard
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FB3F-NJC   Dublin North
Elizabeth
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FBS2-TZ2   Dundalk
Mary
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FB7W-9ZL   Dublin South
Postal Order or Cash at your own risk, might need to add another 2euro for post not sure about that part but they cost 4euro each for research cert.

I usually walk in the door with the same type details hand them in and am on my way in 5 mins so dont see any difference to order by post.

Thank you again. I can't thank you all enough, this has opened another door into my family history.  I tried to find Elizabeth's baptism on the registers that you sent me William's, richard's and Mary's on and i can't find hers. Can i be cheeky and ask one of you experts to send it please. That would be most kind, then i'll have all the children. I owe you all one, i live in Plymouth so if there is any enquiry from here i can do please ask. Thanks

Yes print the form at this link and either post or fax to the GRO - LINK
ignore the dialogue box that appears and click on cancel
A MS Word document will open that you can print and complete

Look for a photocopy for research purposes as the cost is €4
rather than €20 for a certificate for legal purposes unless this is specifically required
and you can request that they send the reply by email

The payment can also be made by Debit Card, Credit Card, Postal Order or Cheque.
There is an option for cash but this is only advised if the form in used in the office directly.

The forms look for quite an amount of information but once you have one of the following:
the details requested
or
the name, year, district, quarter (if any), volume no, and page no.
or
the Group Registration ID Reference and District/Reg Area as on www.irishgenealogy.ie entries
it will be issued

I usually use one of the Civil References and write in the area for PPS

The staff are very good in Roscommon and I have sometimes added a short note to ask for other information e.g. if they can see if there were other births registered to the same parents within a certain timeframe
