Looking through familysearch.org, there seems to be a number of David B Dawsons born during the 1850s. It looks like you may have cross referenced some of these. How do you know that Daniel Harrison Dawson and Phoebe Jane Bennett are his parents? The 1860 census of this couple doesn't show any children.

8 Oct 1897 that states:
David B Dawson of the car department of the Sante Fe was called to
Zaleski, Ohio yesterday by the serious illness of his mother.
This notice provided information that David B, if he is yours, was probably working for the railroad and that his mother lived in Zaleski, Vinton, Ohio.
I think this John below may be a brother to your David: supporting data in next reply entry

SURNAMES: DAWSON, REEVES
I am looking for the parents of John C. DAWSON and Mary M. REEVES who was the parents of Mary
Mendana DAWSON, my mother's mother. She didn't know any more than that. I have found them in the censuses. John & Mary married in Vinton Co. in 1866, lived in Madison Tp. Just north of Atkinson Ridge Cemetery is 40 acres in the name of Mary DAWSON, I believe this is where they lived till she died and John moved to Gallipolis. John was a Civil War veteran, blinded in one eye and on pension in the 1890 U.S. Census,
Zaleski, Vinton Co.
Mendana is definitely an unusual name and it appears as a sister to John in the 1860 census below

22 Sep 1900Several days ago David Dawson, who lives in Oakland reported to police that his boy, Clarence, had run away from home because he did not want to go to school. Last night as officers......were going through the Rock Island yards, they found the boy and took him to the station. The boy has remarkable musical talent and is ambitious to join a minstrel troupe or some such organization, but he will not go to school.
Clarence is probably Charles
