Catholic baptisms in Etruria / Hanley and Burslem late 1840s and 1850s
« on: Thursday 28 January 16 18:36 GMT (UK) »
Hi, can anyone suggest where Catholic children born in Etruria / Hanley and Burslem in the late 1840s and 1850s might have been baptised?

Thanks :)

Edited to add.... Separate families, a son from one family married a daughter from the other in St Mary and St Patrick Catholic Church school in Hanley in 1881. No baptisms found for any of the children from either family, though both sets of parents were married in the Church of England.

Have you tried Michael Gandy's Catholic Missions and Registers 1700-1880 volume 2 The Midlands and East Anglia? Sorry, I don't have a copy.

I found a copy last night and put it in my basket (£6) but didn't have my debit card on me so left it until today. Strangely I now can't find it, though there are plenty of references to the series online. Will look again tomorrow  :)

Update: found it again and now ordered. Thanks.

If anyone else is interested in tracing Catholics in the Midlands, there is an amazing online book detailing all the parishes (old and new) in the Archdiocese of Birmingham on their website.
