Harry Beaumont

Good Afternoon,

I have a brick wall my tree regarding Harry Beaumont - the only information I have is that he married a divorcee called Doreen Dudley (maiden name Swift) in 1956 Dewsbury. Family info is that at some point he left her to join up with some militia group, and disappeared. Doreen is then said to have had him declared deceased so she could later re-marry. Any help on where to start would be most gratefully received.

The only place to start as far as I can see with such limited information - I cannot even begin to guess how many Harry Beaumonts there are  in Yorkshire  - is to get the marriage certificate

£9.25 from GRO online. From there you will see his age, address & father's name & occupation then may be able to trace his birth from baptisms [which may show mother's name & then you may get his parents' marriage certificate & then back to the censuses] & family from electoral rolls etc.

You can try local archives for newspaper reports, but it is probably too recent to feature in online archives, as will any military records.

The certificate arrived today, the details for Harry are as follows

Aged 26 making his year of birth 1930, Bachelor, Brewery Representative, 4 The Green, Ossett, Fathers name Joseph Dent Beaumont window cleaner (master).

Fingers crossed that someone may help shed some light on who / what / when and where

Knowing his father's name will make it possible to trace his family back, but I am not sure this is your interest?
