Although I have no Scottish ancestry, I always do the same, except that where the maiden surname is unknown I use the [married] name in square brackets rather than leaving blank or [unknown].
Great idea, thank you. I now have to go into my FTM file & change all the 'Unknown' to '[married  name]'  :D but it will be worth it for clarity.

In the older documents i have it's predominantly written as M.S.  BUt in new legal documents I am referred to first name x or y.
Campbell, Dunn, Dickson, Fell, Forest, Norie, Pratt, Somerville, Thompson, Tyler among others
