1881 Where was Albert Carter?
« on: Saturday 30 January 16 15:46 GMT (UK) »
Looking for Albert Carter 1881 census
Born 1832 Cheltenham.  Dentist.
His wife Emily Mary and seven children are at Water Terrace Upper Cravells Road, Harpenden, St Albans. Hertfordshire, as visitors.
The family later migrated to South Africa but not prior to January 1886.  (Last child born 1890 S.A.)
A child was born March 1880 and another June 1881 so he must have been around somewhere.
The children were born 1872, 1873, 1874, 1876, 1877, 1878, 1880, 1881, 1883, 1886, in England the last one 1890 in S.A.
Where is he - cannot find him on FindMyPast.

For those looking, some extra info:

Cecil Carter 1, Watford, Hertfordshire
Emily K Carter, 2, b Watford
Horace Carter 3, b St Johns Wood, Middlesex
Leonard Carter 5, b Dorking, Surrey
Albert Carter 6, b Hemel Hempstead
Philip Carter 7, b Watford
Herbert Carter 8, b London
Emily M Carter 29, b Stamford, Lincolnshire

So, if Albert (snr) is in England, he should be in Hertfordshire?
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Obviously he moved around, presumably to do with his occupation.

Is it feasible he could have visited South Africa between January 1879 (the 1880 child) and September 1880 (the 1881 child)?  I cannot think of any way of establishing this theory - but if he is not to be found??

According to 1882 Kelly's Directory he was at 110 High St Watford in 1882 but I can't see 110 at the moment in 1881!! Found it unoccupied!
