That's what ancestry has as it's transcription. I'm looking for someone from N. Wales, so I guess I'm hoping that it says N. Wales .....

I'd agree with "U States". "North Wales" would not be likely; they would more probably just put "Wales".

It isn't Wales, as you have the line they have carried across the two ts. So, definitely States.
