Glover / Earl - Gorey Marriage - 1870
« on: Sunday 31 January 16 13:29 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I believe my gg grandparents were Joseph Elijah GLOVER and Patience EARL - they married in Gorey, Co Wexford in the first quarter of 1870 (civil reg.).

I don't know who either of their parents were, so I'm hoping to find a more detailed marriage record.  I think they were probably Church of Ireland, so I think my best bet is Christ Church, Gorey...?

Does anyone know if marriage records for that church survive for this period?

I’m not familiar with accessing civil registration certificates for the Republic – I know in the North I can just pay £2 to see an image instantly – how does it work in the South?

Regards,
Gilby

Thanks Conahy.  I’m amazed we can’t order it online – you’d have thought they would have implemented that when they put the index on irishgenealogy.ie.

Dathai – thanks, yes right enough, it does say in the census :P.  Thanks for that burial record – I didn’t know her exact date of birth.  I can’t find any evidence of a headstone on the same site – maybe she didn’t get one.  I don’t know when Joseph died (apart from before 1901), so it might have been useful.

I’ve also just found one of their sons (Thomas) on a prison register in 1911!  Threatening behaviour apparently.  Patience is listed as the mother.

What about local church records in Gorey - does anyone have any idea?
