West Norwood=Lambeth??
« on: Sunday 31 January 16 14:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi.
Could someone advise me please?
I am looking into the BMDs of West Norwood 1903 era. Nothing comes up with registration district of West Norwood! Would this come under the umbrella of another borough? Google listings suggest Lambeth, but would this have been the case in 1903?
Many thanks
Liz

If you have the family on the 1901/1911 census - have a look at which registration district they were living in.

For general guidance - here are 2 links for you

Norwood came under Uxbridge for the period you are searching

The parish of Norwood was in Uxbridge Registration District until 1947.

I'm not sure that there was ever a parish called West Norwood?

St Luke's Church, West Norwood
During the nineteenth century, a number of new parishes were created that took in parts of the original parish of St Luke's. These were Holy Trinity Tulse Hill, Christ Church Gipsy Hill, Emmanuel West Dulwich, St Peter Streatham and All Saints West Dulwich.

The 2 West Dulwich churches, Gypsy Hill and Tulse Hill came under Lambeth

Northwood would have been under Uxbridge, but definitely not Norwood, which is south of the river!

It did indeed come under Lambeth in 1903.

Clearly shows Norwood in Uxbridge RD until 1947

It should be Northwood ,near Ruislip.

I grew up near there,it was in Middlesex.

Norwood was most definitely in Uxbridge Registration District.

See: http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/uxbridge.html

But OP was talking about West Norwood?

But if you look at this in 1903,it also includes Norwood which is south of the river, not north as Northwood is.

If you scroll down to history here you will see that there was a Norwood before a West Norwood.
