St. Leger
« on: Sunday 31 January 16 21:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am researching my 3 x Great Grandmother Eleanor St Leger born in the early 1800's, 1803-1806 I think in Stafford Hertfordshire England.
she married my 3x Great Grandfather William Game in 1822 in London. I am having a lot of trouble finding out anything about her prior to her marriage, my thorough search on Ancestry is coming up blank. Please let me know if you can help. I am new to roots so hope I am doing this right

Hi, Welcome to Rootschat.

Stafford, you say, Hertfordshire?

Would you supply exact+full details of what you have?
Including the source(s)

Thanks

There is the possibility of her being a descendant of the instigator of the Horserace at Doncaster in the late 18th century. It might be worthwhile googling the race and the name of the aristocrat who founded it, and then researching him. Perhaps you have already done this?

Both parties to the wedding signed with their marks (X)

So they were not educated.

So if you are trying to make a link to £££££ then that will probably fail?

Ah - two people:

Death Jul/Aug/Sep 1865
Hackney
ref 1b 245
Elinor Game         (might be the illiterate laundress who was in HAckney in 1851)

and

Death Oct/Nov/Dec 1879
Lambeth
ref 1d 286
Eleanor Game
age 76

might be the one bn Croydon who was in Westminster.

Only guesswork though.
