Do these places still exist?
« on: Monday 01 February 16 21:17 GMT (UK) »
This is as much handwriting deciphering as it is local knowledge!
Edward Roberts born c.1867 in Cardiganshire, living in Ferndale, Glamorganshire with his wife Elizabeth and their children. I'm trying to find where Elizabeth and Edward were born. Specifically, I'm looking for Elizabeth in the 1891 census before they married.

I'm struggling to read in the 1911 census where their birthplaces are and find out what they could be.
Edward is definitely Cardiganshire, looks like Elmsbach? but no record of Elmsbach as a place.
Elizabeth is also Cards but looks like Yverddoe?
Their children are born in Ferndale Glamorganshire.

Can anyone please help me read what those places are and locate them in Cardiganshire?

Edward I would suggest as Eglwysbach or possibly Eglwysfach, as there is a place with the latter name in north Cardiganshire. Following back with his parents 1871 and 1881 suggest his place of birth is Scuborycoed, which is in Eglwysfach parish   (although I think 1891 could be Blaen something - it's a right mess)

I think you're all right about the birthplaces, especially as they're all so close. I already have Ed's parents and ancestry but have never broken through Elizabeth Owen Williams b.1871. Any advice?
When I look for Elizabeth Owen Williams b.1871 in Cards in the 1891 census I only find people in Aberystwyth and Tregaron. Can't be sure it's them.

think you may need that cert to be sure of the right family.

I did find this family
1871 Trerddole, Llancynfelin RG10/5565 folio 34 pg 12
John Williams head mar 29 farm servant
Anne wife 30
Evan son 4
Mary dau 10
Margaret dau 6
all born Cardiganshire

1881 Cynnillmawr RG11/5447 folio 71 pg 18
Anne Williams head mar 40 b. Llanbadarn
Margt dau 16 b. Llanfihangel
Elizabeth dau 12 b. Llancanfelin
Anne Jane dau 8 b. Llanfihangel
John Owen son 3 b. Llanfihangel
Evan Thomas grandson 2 b. Llanfihangel
Thomas son 10 months b. Llanfihangel

Haven't spotted Elizabeth in 1871 as yet, but this family were living in Treddol & they have a daughter Elizabeth of roughly the right age. In 1881, John Williams was a married farm servant in Llancynfelin ref RG11/5447 folio 104 pg 5
