Thomas Ellis Family of Llanfyllin
« on: Tuesday 02 February 16 16:31 GMT (UK) »
I am seeking information about the family of Thomas and Margaret (Edwards) Ellis, who lived near Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant, and later Llanfyllin. Margaret was born near Llandderfel, Merionethshire, in 1875. She had an illegitimate son named Robert William Edwards in 1902 before marrying Thomas Ellis in 1906. They became the parents of several children, including Humphrey, Thomas John, Maria, Edward Rees, and Mary Leah. I have the 1911 census for the family but I don't know much else. The family moved into Llanfyllin and lived at 7 Rhiwlas Terrace. Most of the children died fairly young in the 1920's from Tuberculosis. It is said that daughter Maria was a dwarf and lived into her 60's. I do not know when Thomas and Margaret died.

Hi

Exactly what kind of info are you looking for?   Apart from BMD's there is little online info available after 1911 apart from the 1939 register which is available on FindMyPast

Have you looked for marriages for the surviving children and deaths for Thomas & Margaret on freebmd?  www.freebmd.org.uk

I was not aware of the 1939 register but will take a look. All but one of the children died, which was Maria. She was born in 1908 and was said to have died when she was 60/61 years old. I have not been able to identify when Thomas and Margaret died. I believe Thomas died between 1928-1936, and I know Margaret was still living in 1933.

Maria may have married - but if she remained single - this could possibly be her death reg

Maria Ellis born 10.1.1908 aged 61 June 1969 Shrewsbury 9a    497

Is this her birth reg?  If so - it fits with a January birth

Births March qtr 1908
Maria   Ellis     Llanfyllin    11b   173

What was Thomas's birthyear in 1911?

This seems the likeliest death for Thomas

Deaths December qtr 1921
Thomas Ellis    64    Llanfyllin    11b   227

3 possibles for Margaret but you need to first see if she is found on the 1939 register - all names are Margaret Ellis

March qtr 1942  aged 68  Llanfyllin  11b   448
Deaths March qtr 1943 aged  68    Llanfyllin    11b   178
December qtr 1944  aged 69 Llanfyllin    11b   129
