Denis Cassidy
« on: Wednesday 03 February 16 02:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi.  I am looking for information about a Denis Cassidy, born in Londonderry 1898.  He lived in William Street. He lived with his father Denis and mother Susan.  They were butchers/cattle traders.  Denis Junior married Bridget in 1923.  Does anybody know any information about Denis or Bridget please?  Thanks.     :)

Just posting the relevant 1901 / 1911 census returns for convenience, it gives potential responders an instant fix of background information:

The couple in the census returns are Denis Cassidy and Susan Doherty, they got married in St. Columba's Long Tower, Derry, on 3 July 1876. Denis' father was Michael Cassidy, a butcher, Susan's father was William Doherty, a labourer.

GRONI online should have their civil marriage record and the civil birth records for their children.

Denis junior married Bridget Breen in St. Columba's Long Tower on 15 January 1923, her father Thomas Breen was a policeman.

The witnesses to the marriage of Denis Cassidy junior to Bridget Breen in 1923 were a James and Cassie McGranaghan, just to note for now.

Going back to Thomas Breen, a 26 year old policeman of that name married a Mary Kerans in Kilteevan Church, Co. Roscommon in 1883. Thereafter, a number of children were born to a constable Thomas Breen and Mary/Maria Cairns (and variant spellings) in Co. Londonderry, including a James Francis Breen in 1890.

A Bridget Breen was born on 11 January 1902, the address was Barnwall Place, Derry, the parents were Thomas Breen and Mary A McGrenaghan, Thomas was described as a pensioner.

Given all of the above information, I am assuming that this is Thomas in 1901 (note 1890 born James):

Bridget therefore in 1911:

Half way down post #1 at http://irishconstabulary.com/topic/532/The-Londonderry-Police#.VrHBMWAqUU8 , will give you an idea of policing in the area from 1880s/90s, when Thomas Breen worked there.
