Glinnane/Glenane Family, Clonbeg, Tipp.
« on: Friday 05 February 16 13:59 GMT (UK) »
I'm researching the family of my gt-gdfather, John Glinnane (1831-1911), who lived on the border of Tipperary and Limerick. In Griffith's Valn they had small plot in townland of Longford, Galbally. After the Famine, John left his family and joined the RIC and was posted up to Ulster. The plot (about 1 acre) remained with his parents, Bridget and John senior, until 1884 when presumably both parents had died. I have discovered a fair amount about my gt-gf but there was another son, William: I have only a record of his baptism on 29 Mar 1834. I should be very grateful if anyone help me with any further information about the Glinnane family (spelling varies!) left behind in Tipperary and, indeed, about Clonbeg and how severely the area was affected during the Famine. Thank you.

Hello! I am based in England, in a village between London and Oxford! I am grateful for any help you can offer me about Glinnanes in Co. Tipperary. Thanks.

Hello Maggie. Thanks for taking up my queries! Yes, I understand that John Glinnane and Bridget Chapman were John junior (my gt-gdfather) and William junior's parents. I haven't found any other children whom I can definitely attach to them - but I'm still working through the Baptismal register for Galbally. There were certainly 8 other Glinnanes in the parish, whom I have temporarily assumed to be brothers and sisters of John senior, and possibly all fathered by a William Glinnane, but I don't yet have their birth dates (and I don't have a wife for William himself). Some could have been fathered by someone else whom I've not yet identified as their marriages span from 1811 to 1833...

This link gives statistics from Census of Ireland 1851.
Statistics also for 1841 for comparison.
