Possibly Workington Secondary school 1920s - photo with names
« on: Friday 05 February 16 23:25 GMT (UK) »
My aunt is in this picture which I think must be Workington Technical and Secondary school in the 1920s. Can anyone confirm this?

I've posted the names on the reverse too in case they are of interest to anyone here.

Yes that is defeinitely the old and great Secondary Technical School, which was I believe originally the Grammar School. The photograph is taken at the rear of the main building on waste ground where later the new Gymnasium was built around 1957.
I believe that the wooden huts (Two) were burnt down in the early sixties.
Sadly this marvelous building is no more, demolished to allow a new Hospital to be erected.

That's great, Cumberland Sausage. Now I know for sure that it's Workington school, I can also date it fairly accurately to 1925-26. Thank you.  :)

To attach a file (which must be no more than 500kb in size), first click Reply, go to where it says Attach, click Choose File, and browse to find the file on your computer, then Post.

However, please don't worry if you can't get it to work, because although I'd be interested to see your photo, my main reason for wanting to know if my photo actually was Workington school, was to help me work out the order in which my grandfather changed jobs and moved his family around the country. Too recent for censuses, and there's no-one left from that side of my family, so I'm piecing it together from photos and odd scraps of information.
