Coastguard Station, Tramore & Robert Browne 1853-1923
« on: Monday 08 February 16 15:51 GMT (UK) »
Robert Browne was a Master Mariner. His application to the Marine Board gives his address as Coast guard Station, Tramore, Co. Waterford and is dated 1870s. I know the general history of the Coastguard station, and am wondering if his family lived in one of the cottages?
His father was John Browne (b.1825) and his mother Jane (nee Moore) 1826-1909.

It is difficult to tell where his parents lived at that time.

They were married in Galway in 1845 LINK
John BROWN of Fairhill Galway, bachelor, occ. coastguard, father: Robert a branch Pilot
married May 09 1845 in St. Nicholas' Galway
Jane MOOR of Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare, spinster, occ. "busy with parents", father: Francis Revenue Office
Witnesses: Francis MOORE and Annabelle COOKE
Civil reference: LINK

daughter Sophia born Apr 24 1846 bap. May 06 1846 St. Nicholas
address given as Fairhill, Galway and father a coastguard

It would be reasonable to assume that his father continued a coastguard and lived in accommodation provided.  There are good records available for coastguards at that time.

There are also three births in Co. Down to a John Brown and Jane Moore
Margaret 1850, Robert 1852 and William 1854 but nothing to imply they are the same family
It is possible however that the family relocated to a station there for a period.

Looks like a different family-
John   BROWN   .   Dromara   son of Robert Brown; married Jane Moore 3 Sep 1850

Thank you aghadowey
Felt it might be but with the movement of coastguards thought it best to mention
