I live in the Cottage which Richard and Sarah Taylor lived in, there is no mention of it being called Rose Cottage. In the Richards Will it just mentions Copyhold Cottage and in the Wimbish Manorial records it is states Tenement at Tye Green at a yearly rent of 8 pence.

Could you attach or send me the picture of Ellen Ridgewell standing outside Rose Cottage.

Mary Stock was the daughter of Thomas Stock and Ann Shepherd, born 1762 in Saffron Walden. I think I found Thomas' baptism in Little Bardfield in 1719, son of Samuel and Ann Stock. A Sam and Ann Stock were having children in Saffron Walden from 1724 onwards.

I traced the Taylor line back to Samuel Taylor born c1723. His son Samuel Taylor wed Ann Stock in Wimbish (or Walden) in 1766.

I have attached the Marriage of Richard Taylor and Mary Stock in Saffron Walden.

I also have the will of Alan Taylor who died in 1830 if anybody is interested. Did this Alan have any children and what is the connection with the other Alan's?

Are you referring to Alan (or Allen), son of Richard and Mary b. 1791? I've got him a dying in 1877 aged 86 at the Union Workhouse, Saffron Walden. I'd be interested to see a copy of his will if it's the same one as I've obviously gone wrong somewhere!  ???

I am not sure if the Allen who died in 1830 is connected to our Allen. Could be a name coincidence and same village. The one who died at Wimbish Hall in 1830 was born about 1745.

Richard Taylor was born in 1759 in Barkway, Herts. The Taylors seems to flit between Barkway and Saffron Walden as a 1773 poor law record mentions them. Samuel, wife Elizabeth, children Sarah, 18, Ann 14 and Richard.

Samuel Taylor wed Elizabeth Cooper in 1746 in Barkway.

Children was

Samuel born 1747, Barkway, m Ann Stock, 1766, Saffron Walden.
Sarah born 1755, Saffron Walden.
Ann born c1757.
Richard born 1759, Barkway, m Mary Stock, 1780, Saffron Walden.
John Taylor born 1764, Barkway, died 1764, Barkway.

Allen Taylor Esquire was born 1745 in ?????? married Elizabeth Walford in 1771 at Birdbrook, Essex. They lived in Wimbish Hall, he died in 1830 and Elizabeth died in 1833 age 83.
There is a plaque on the wall in Wimbish Church.

Sorry I have not got the will of the Allen Taylor who died in 1877.

I have the Wimbish Manorial Rolls mentioning Richard and Sarah Taylor who lived in our Copyhold cottage.

Coombs so you have the marriage record of Samuel Taylor & Ann Stock?  I found Samuel's "settlement letter" dated 1820 which says he "50 years ago purchased the house of Ann Stock widow..." which is a bit confusing if this was the same Ann Stock he was married to who apparently lived until 1792. It goes on to say he had 5 children (Ann, Mary, John. James & William)

Hi

I will have to check my notes to be sure but I think the Ann Stock widow was the mother of Ann Stock Jnr who wed Samuel Taylor in 1766. Ann Shepherd married Thomas Stock in 1738 in Saffron Walden.
