So the two extra middle names of Catherine "Howard Forbes" could be after the ships Captain?

My grandfather's brother's middle names were both after the ship and captain.

Three extra names .... Catherine St. George Smith Howard Forbes;D
Quite a handle, isn't it ?  ;D    (Perhaps not surprising she was plain "Catherine" on the e/rolls ??)

MIEK should be MICK.

;D  ... yep and GARDINER should be GARDNER ... and, McGEORGE should be "St. George" etc.

I posted that information to give you an idea of  "errors" that can occur in transcriptions.

[For some reason there seems to be an abundance of (spelling) errors  in records connected to the wider HAWTHORNE / HAWTHORN family.   I'd say that is little unusual (i.e not the norm. ]

Coming back to Thomas Hawthorn, I think he and Dora took passage on the S.S. St. George from either Montreal or Quebec to Glasgow. The S.S. St. George was an Allan Line ship, and the captain's surname was Smith - Howard Forbes Smith?

From Glasgow, they would have gone by ship to New Zealand.
