Shaw family history
« on: Wednesday 10 February 16 04:27 GMT (UK) »
I AM CURRENTLY RESEARCHING MY FAMILY HISTORY ON THE SHAWS WHO I BELIEVE WERE ORIGINALLY FROM STAFFS FROM THE MINING COMMUNITY AND WHO MOVED TO BARGOED AREA OF WALES. WILLIAM SHAW WHO WAS MARRIED TO ANNIE WERE BORN AROUND 1899 AND 1870 RESPECTIVELY. I BELIEVE THEY HAD 9 CHILDREN INCLUDING THE NAMES GEORGE JACK EDITH TWINS JAMES AND SARAH WILLIAM AND HENRY. I BELIEVE JACK WORKED AS A MINER AT ? BARGOED MINE OR ONE NEAR BY. IF ANYONE CAN HELP WITH INFO ON JACK OR OTHER MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY IT WOULD BE APPRECIATED. I AM NEW TO FAMILY HISTORY.
MANY THANKS
JAIMERS

The first thing to say is: please don't use capital letters! ;D
It's difficult to read, and in internet-speak means you are shouting!

Are you sure about those dates of birth?
There would be 29 years between William and Annie - that's a big gap!
And, if he was born in 1899, then they won't have married until at least 1915 when Annie was 45?
That's rather late in life to start having a family of 7 children?

Welcome to RootsChat  :)
I wonder if  William's birth as 1899 was a typo and he was born in 1869??  Is this the family in 1901 living in the parish of Audley Staffordshire??

William Shaw    32 Cheadle, Staffordshire  Coal Miner
Annie E Shaw    31  Newcastle, Staffordshire
Edith Shaw 9  Bury Hill, Staffordshire
Mary S Shaw 8 Bury Hill, Staffordshire
James Shaw 6 Bucknall, Staffordshire

Its almost certain that William Shaw married an Ann Elizabeth Jefferies at Stoke St Peter in 1889.It looks like daughter Edith was born in the Fenton area in 1891.She is given as such with a mother's maiden name of Jefferies. Both of these records I found on Staffordshire BMD.

Ann as she is given in 1871 is only to be found as such in that year. She is given as born in Newcastle UL in c 1869 and as the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth.

Regards
William Russell Jones.
