Bowles of Epsom
« on: Sunday 14 February 16 21:43 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Can anyone give me any help on tracing the Bowles family who lived in Middle Lane, Linton lane Epsom back in 1871. James and Emma Bowles were the head of the family and they had Charles, Eliza, George and Robert. I know Robert went on to marry a Phyllis Butcher and they lived at number 15 Middle Lane. They had Edith Bowles(who was my Nan) George Bowles, Herbert Bowles, Kathleen Bowles and Hilda Bowles. It would be lovely if any body knew what happened to George, Herbert, Kathleen and Hilda.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks
Yvonne

Hi Yvonne

Possible marriages on FreeBMD: http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

Marriages Sep 1923
Bowles    Herbert E    Lee    Epsom    2a   44
Lee    Dorothy    Bowles    Epsom    2a   44

Marriages Sep 1945
Bowles    Kathleen I    Rought    Lewes    2b   611
Rought    Ernest G    Bowles    Lewes    2b   611

Marriages Mar 1934
Bowles    Hilda D    Reece    Epsom    2a   125
Reece    Cecil R    Bowles    Epsom    2a   125

Marriages Mar 1926
Bowles    George H    Ricketts    Epsom    2a   52
Ricketts    Annie L    Bowles    Epsom    2a   52

I got the Birth Registrations with middle initials from FreeBMD as above, but there is more than one George registered around the time.

I see other posters have given his name as George Frederick so ignore above marriage.

You can look for children of each couple by putting both parents surnames in the Search Box on FreeBMD.

Regards
Giggsy

Hilda was at home with her parents 1930-33 according to electoral registers. There's then a marriage to a Cecil Roy Reece in Q1 1934. They're on registers in Epsom up to WWII. Hilda may have died in the area in 1985, and there are some possible children who I'll not name as they may still be living

There are many Bowles burials in Epsom Cemetery (up to 1950). They can be viewed at http://www.epsomandewellhistoryexplorer.org.uk/EpsomCemeteryBurialsB.html

George Frederick Bowles was my grandfather. He married Maud Vickers Gregory and they had 2 children Margaret Myrtle (my mother) and George Victor. GF died in 1959. Are you any relation to Les Collis? I think the family went to Australia. My grandfather was a chauffeur as stated above. Your grandmother Edith was his sister
