"The French" burials in the Lilleshall area

I have found a couple of burials in the Lilleshall area which describe the person as "of the French". Does anyone know what this means?

Richard Tither buried 21/7/1724 at Lilleshall. On the same page is a Francis Rowley. Both state "of the French"

I think you will find it says Trench which is a place about 3 miles from Lilleshall
