Madge Doherty, Druminderry, Buncrana
« on: Tuesday 16 February 16 17:52 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for descendants of Madge Doherty who was born c 1795- 1815 The Parks Buncrana. She married a Doherty and settled in Druminderry. Her father was Anthony Doherty, The Parks, Buncrana.
She had a sister Mary who also married a Doherty, The Cove Buncrana. She had a brother Manus
who settled in Iskaheen who is my ancestor. Another sister married a Canny and settled in Carndonagh. She was also related to an Edward Kearney, Carndonagh. Would be grateful for any information.

Regards,
M

Hi,

Has the name always been spelt the same way "Doherty".  Has it ever been O'Doherty/ O'Dougharty etc.

There are other variations out there and I was wondering if you had searched using them?

There is a Madge Doherty, born Buncrana 1789 to Anthony and Margaret that can be seen with a Google query.

I have done quite a lot of research into the families around the Inishowen area and these names seem familiar. Let me look at my research and I'll let you know.

I think I know why they seemed familiar.

In the 1901 census of Druminderry there is a Charles Doherty with a wife Rose. Charles was born about abt 1844. On his marriage in 1873 to Rose it gives his father as being Anthony Doherty.

Not a sibling of Madge because of the dates of course. I must look further to see if I found anything else even remotely connected to Madge:)
