Just did a search on the Glasgow Herald (showing as Captain Taitt). They are carrying a story on the accident, a take from the Greenock Advertiser:

GLASGOW, FEBRUARY 4 .
Glasgow Herald (Glasgow, Scotland), Monday, February 4, 1856; Issue 5563

You should be able to view, amongst other places, for free here  http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=GGgVawPscysC

Just a quick message to thank everyone who replied to my message for information on the burial place
of Alexander Tait. The Watt Library provided the details I was looking for. For anyone who may be interested he was buried in Greenock Cemetery on 2nd February 1856.

Once again thanks
