Alfred Walker West Ham District
« on: Tuesday 16 February 16 23:19 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to trace an Alfred Walker born July 1893 in the West Ham District

I know that he married Annie Chapman, I believe in 1922 again in the West Ham District

He was recorded on the 1939 census as residing in Weston Colville in Cambridgeshire where Annie was from and where they brought up their family.

I'm trying to trace his parents and any brothers or sisters.

This looks like his birth, the certificate would give his parent's names to make sure that you follow the correct one, as there is also another Alfred Walker born July 1892, so they could easily get mixed up.

He married Annie S T Chapman, September quarter 1923 in West Ham ref 4a 938.
The marriage certificate would give the fathers name of both parties.

I looked at the census records there are 3 families with a son Alfred about the right age.
Do you know what he did for a living? at age 18 he would be working in 1911 census.

Did he have a middle name, there is a Alfred Charles born 1894, Alfred William 1895 and Alfred 1891. The one born 1892 died 1892. all in West Ham.

I'm not aware of any middle names. I know that in 1939 census his occupation was listed as a bricklayer.
I think it looks as though I'm going to need the birth certificate or the marriage certificate to find out any more

I think you will have to, as amondg has confirmed what I said about there being more than one in the area. If you've found them in 1939, you have his exact date of birth, so know which birth certificate to buy. I think I would go with that one as it gives his mother's maiden name as well.
