Sending for a certificate
« on: Wednesday 17 February 16 10:27 GMT (UK) »
Hi there

Can some kind person please remind me how to send for a marriage certificate, address and cost. Think its cheaper requesting it directly that through one of the ancestry sites.

Many thanks

Order it from the GRO and it costs £9.25 for standard service

www.gro.gov.uk

for the reference numbers you can use www.freebmd.org.uk

(more recent events may not be on there so you will have to use a site like ancestry or findmypast to find them and then order from the GRO as normal)
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.
