Hogan
« on: Wednesday 17 February 16 20:06 GMT (UK) »
What chance have I of finding a birth/baptism for a Mary Hogan who gave her birthplace as Clare on the 1881 Census, she married a James DEVINE in Barnsley in 1857 and her fathers name given as John.

Oh you didn't get an answer yet.

Chances of finding her are very slim, if she was RC the priest MIGHT have written her marriage on her baptism but you don't know which parish. You could use Ancestry to narrow down the search, I assume they have a link to the originals but they are free here http://registers.nli.ie/ but can't be searched by name.
You also need the records for her parish to start early enough. Lot of luck needed.

Hi

Do you have any names/placenames from later family members?

If you look at the Tithes link below, which cover the period early 1820s to mid 1830s, you'll see the John Hogans listed in Co Clare. Its possible one of these might provide a clue.
