What records have you found him in? What is the earliest one you have for him?
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

Hi the first thing that we have is his wedding 14-11-1797 at Winterton Parish Church to Elizabeth Hales. He signs his name Cambell, when you look on Lincs to the past and its whoever transcribed it who spelt it with a P (Campbell) Thanks Babs

You are correct, so he does. My apologies.

But the priest or parish clerk or whoever has prepared the register entry has written it as Campbell.

Looking at the transcriptions on FreeReg, I couldn't see any Cambell or Campbell BMD's in Winterton before 1782 so presumably they did come from another parish.

Hi no need to apologise they still did this upto the 1900's thinking it had been spelt wrong. He shows up later in Whitton Lincolnshire in 1818 to do with the Methodist Church (The History of Whitton) but nothing to do with his birth Babs

Just a totally left field thought is it possible that the name could have been Kimble/Kimbell?
Phonetically not a stretch.
