Good Luck --- as they have one child that we know of who was baptised at a Presbyterian Chapel -- it may just be worth checking the Non-Conformist records - which tend to be separate from C of E records.

There are some on Family Search (free site) - or on Ancestry (subscription site).
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Thanks for all your help, as I am new to tracing my family history it has been much appreciated. One more request, I am finding my way around the Scottish sites eg. Scotlands People etc but where do I go for similar information in England, for example birth, marriage and death certificates?

John -- there are some free sites and some are subscription.

FREE SITES

For the England and Wales Civil Registration Index  of births, marriages and deaths there is Free BMD

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

 - Formal Registration of Births Marriages and Deaths in England and Wales commenced on 1 July 1837. Hence any events occurring AFTER that date should be recorded on that site. They are recorded in quarters for each year - ie Q/E March, June, Sept and Dec.
In addition they are in 'Registration Districts' - usually this is the nearest large town to where the event took place.

Prior to 1 July 1837 we are dependant on Parish Registers for baptisms, marriages and burials.
A free site is Free Reg;

http://www.freereg.org.uk/

There is also Family Search - a world wide site run by the Church of Latter Day Saints

https://familysearch.org/

SUBSCRIPTION SITES

The subscription sites below include world wide records if you go for a world subscription - they include census records, civil registration indexes, many parish registers, immigration and loads, loads more.

http://home.ancestry.com/    (this is the world wide site)
http://www.findmypast.co.uk/  (there is also a World subscription on this one)

There are other subscription sites - but these 2 also have America, Australia, New Zealand etc records in their world subscriptions.

I hope this is of some help

Sorry -- forgot to mention--- unlike Scottish People, if you find a birth, marriage or death you will need to order the actual certificate from the General Register Office

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

You can do this on-line and the present cost per certificate is £9.25. You need the details you find on the Civil registration Index to order the certificate.

In some cases the filmed parish records for marriages in particular - which are included on sites such as Ancestry or Find My Past, will provide all the information you need, without the need for an actual certificate. However some counties are much better served in this respect than others.
