Oh my gosh!! I just found her on Ancestry.  Jane Hildreth, her mother was Jane Bowron!!  NOw to link her in marriage.  Thank you ladies so much!

I assume you mean you found her on someones familytree on Ancestry.  :-\  Please treat online trees with care, they are notoriously unreliable and the information should always be verified.

As Jane is stating that she is a widow and continuing having children it is possible that none of them have William as a father though.  :o  You need to establish when William died.

yes, that is why I posted too soon.  I never copy anything off of ancestry unless they have documents to back up their claims.  I have found William in 1901 widowed too, not sure what to make of all of this.

Where is William in 1901, how do you know it is 'your' William.  Do you have him on census prior to his marriage, who is his father and what are their occupations.

Sorry so many questions

Rosie

It appears to be my William, but I have done nothing with the record because of the discrepancy of them both being alive but widowed.  I have no information past William, that is what I am desperately trying to find.

I would think that the only way to establish if it is your William is to buy a couple of certificates. You really need to confirm that Jane's maiden name was Hildreth by getting one of the childrens birth certs (preferably your John Henry) and then purchasing the marriage that has been suggested.  The marriage should give details of Williams father.

Can you give a census reference for the William you think could be yours

Here is the 1901 census with William Hodgson, I am not certain he is mine.  Dates and locations are the same, but with William and Hodgson being so common it could be anybody.

http://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=GBC/1901/4702-4703/0149&parentid=GBC/1901/0029785917

I have a census in 1871 with William on it, then is 1881 he is dead.  I can't find a 1891 Census

On all of the birth records that I have for the children, Jane is listed as either 'Jane' or 'Jane Hodgson'  Would purchasing the records make a difference?  What are your thoughts?
