Having had a look around the 1871 census near Jane's parents (given she's living a few doors away in 1881) I note there is a Hodgson family two pages on. IN 1861 they have a William b 1851 in Forcett with them, but I lose him until 1891 (but may have found in 1881)

As suggested earlier purchase one of the childrens birth certificates - it should give a name and occupation for the father.  It will also give mothers maiden name so you have confirmation of the marriage you should be looking for.  We are still only assuming that the William Hodgson / Jane Hildreth marriage is the correct one

Name, date, location, parents name and sometimes parents additional information.

You know what, I am just going to buy them.  At least I can get the one for my great grandfather.

Sorry I am not sure what you mean by 'indexed' copies.

Someone wrote down the information from a birth certificate.  I do not posses the actual image or certificate, just the information from the certificate.
