Craddock family Huntingdonshire (Kimbolton)
« on: Saturday 20 February 16 14:21 GMT (UK) »
Dear all,
In my tree I have a branch of the family who, though they were from Northamptonshire, ended up in Kimbolton, Huntingdonshire, from about the 1830s onwards.

- George Craddock x Mary Hazleby 31 May 1832 and they appear in the 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871 censuses.
- Henry Craddock is George's brother, who appears in the 1841 census, was married to one Louisa, in Huntingdonshire.
Both brothers were born in Kingsthorpe, Northamptonshire. They apparently ran an inn in Kimbolton.

There are also two other Craddocks in Kimbolton, Huntingdonshire, one by name of William, who marries Elizabeth Croagers in 1830, and Richard who marries Mary Chapman in 1819.
Richard seems to have been born in Huntingdonshire and seems slightly older than the other three. George, Henry and William were all born in Northamptonshire.

Is there anyone here researching the Craddock family who can tell me more about them? I already have the Kingsthorpe/Northamptonshire information and am going to check out the Finedon Williams to see whether the census information matches someone. What I *would* like to know is the following:
- Who and when did Henry marry?
- Who are the parents of Richard and where and when was he born?
- Is there a possibility that George and Henry's father (John Craddock from Kingsthorpe) married a Huntingdonshire lady (since I have no marriage for him)? She would have been Susanna(h) and their marriage should be some time between 1785 and 1796.

Many thanks for any Huntingdonshire tips!
Regards,
Lexi.

What about John Craddock, yeoman of Glendon, Northants age 21+ who married Susannah George of Roxton age 21+, at Roxton on 19 Aug 1794 by licence, surety given by Peasor George, wheelwright of Roxton

That sounds to my liking - but why I couldn't find him in Northants is beyond me. I'd better go to google maps and see where Roxton is...

What would a yeoman be, by the way? Isn't that like a farmer?

Probably because Roxton is in Bedfordshire, east of Bedford

Haha yes, google maps told me that too. John from Northamptonshire must have travelled far and wide to find the woman of his dreams.
