Hello   I found John in the 1841 census which gave his age and place of birth   so no clues to parents he died in 1850.. His marriage I found in the Parish Records which was 1794 St Oswald Ashbourne .

1841 does not give a place of birth, only if they were born in or out of the county where they were then living.

So, if he said "yes" then he could have been born anywhere in Derbyshire.

What age was he as death? Remember ages in 1841 census are rounded, usually down to nearest 5 years.

If he was actually bn 1777 he would have only been 17 at the 1794 marriage - did it record that he was a minor (ie under 21)

Hi,

From www.familysearch.org, you can see the actual parish register for the 1794 marriage you
have to sign in but access is free:-

John Grime, batchelor,  of Ashbourne Parish and Elizabeth Clark, spinster, of the parish of Bradley
married by licence. Witness - John Clark & John Langford.

John signs Elizabeth makes her mark.

I can only find one John Grime on the 1841 Census living Yeldersley Parish of Ashbourne:-
Grime  John   70  (1771)  Ag. Lab
"   William      23   (1818)   "     "
"   Ellen          23  (1818)
"   John            1
All born Derbyshire.

Is this the family?

William Grime Bpt 27.9.1795 Bradley Derbyshire son of John & Elizabeth Grime.

This William possibly married 2.4.1815 Ashbourne, to Ann Gibbs (again register on familysearch)
Producing William born 25th March 1818 Bpt 24th Jan 1819 Ashbourne, son of William & Ann.

William born 1818 then married Ellen?, and produces John bpt 18th April 1840 Ashbourne, Derbyshire.

So  william born 1818 and family are  living with his Grandfather on the 1841 census.

Hi,

So John Grime was born abt 1770  the son of Joseph & Sarah Gryme.

These are possible siblings all bpt at Bradley, Derbyshire:-
Hannah Grime bpt 6th August 1758
Mary Gryme bpt  7th July 1765
Thomas Grime bpt 1st April 1768
JOHN GRYME bpt 28th December 1770

There is also a burial at Ashbourne of Eliz:  Grime dau of Joseph Grime of Yeldersley 27th Sept 1756,
However I cannot find a bpt for her or a marriage for Joseph & Sarah.

FindMyPast has the marriage licence of 7 Jun 1794, details:

John GRIME of Yieldersley p. Ashbourne age 24 bachelor farmer and Elizabeth CLARK 24 spinster of Bradley. Bond by John CLARK of Bradley, servant. To be married at Ashbourne.

John GRIME made his mark and John CLARK signed. Would be interesting to compare the signatures of the John CLARKE. Wonder why John GRIME would sign the marriage register but only make his mark on the licence allegation?
