Queensland Courier Mail look up
« on: Monday 22 February 16 09:16 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for the following person and his family.

JAMES BLADON OLIVER b1905 Sheffield, Yorkshire England came to Queensland (when?) he married a FLORENCE and according to a memorial at ABBEY CREEK MEMORAL PARK, James died on 30th April 1975 and Florence on 31st October 1991.  They had 4 sons and one daughter.

A Brian Oliver b1937 died in Tamborine on 30th Mar 2001, his death notice was in the Courier Mail on 3rd April 2001

Is anyone able to provide details of the death notice for Brian and any other information particulary for James Bladon Oliver (death notice?)

Thanks

Helena UK

I do lookups for the Courier Mail for RYERSON.
My records say I have this issue at home (03 April 2001) but I'm on leave and not at home right now.

If nobody else gets it for you, I'll look for it next week.
Being a death notice, it may not give any family names - they are often just date and where they are from (late of). I see this one doesn't give his age.

North Tamborine is in the Gold Coast hinterland, BTW

James Bladon Oliver
Father: Wilfred Oliver
Mother: Kate Bladon

Helena, can I just check the name of the Memorial Park? Might it be Albany Creek rather than Abbey Creek?

I can't easily see a marriage for James to Florence.

Yes sorry typo there it is Albany Creek and I think Florence died 31st October 1991.  As I am not sure of when James arrived in Australia (his sister and parents stayed in Sheffield) he may have married Florence elsewhere in Australia

Just found some more out via Ancestry.  James married Florence DOTTI who was born 1909 in Rock Hampton Queensland.  It also appears (from an online tree) that their son GLENN WILFRED died in Queensland 2013-2016

That will be Rockhampton (one word) Helena.  ;)  ;D

I couldn't see the marriage on the Queensland index ....

James may have arrived elsewhere in Australia as I can't see him on the Queensland online immigration indexes, but I'm not sure if they are complete. I know that there are some missing people (one of mine included who arrived around a similar time frame and is nowhere to be found). I think if they paid their own fare they could slip through the cracks and there may be no record of their arrival.

Thanks for looking, I may have to purchases James's death certificate.  Is there anyone who looks the details up or can you only order via the Queensland Government web site?

A Death Certificate will give a lot of details, including spouse, children, occupation, cause of death ... but will not tell you all the answers you are looking for.

There are two entries for James's death (and I don't know what the difference between them is):
https://www.bdm.qld.gov.au/IndexSearch/querySubmit.m?ReportName=DeathSearch

It looks like you can order online.

If James left a will then his death certificate will be included with that. See:
